Heritage Community Foundation. (n.d.). Retrieved September 25, 2008, from Alberta Naturally: http://www.edukits.ca/abnaturally/index.htm

Grade Level: 4

Subject: Social Studies

Brief Description of Activity: Students will go to a website, where they will read and learn about Alberta’s natural regions. When they have completed their reading they will go to a different website and play a game called dunk the bugs that takes them through Alberta’s natural regions and asks them questions about its geography. The websites the students will visit are http://www.abheritage.ca/abnature/map.htm and http://www.edukits.ca/abnaturally/index.htm. If a student completes this they may play again because the game asks different questions each time.

General Learner Outcomes- Students will demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of how elements of physical geography,
climate, geology and paleontology are integral to the landscapes and environment of Alberta

Specific Learner Outcomes- What are the major geographical and natural vegetation regions, landforms and bodies of water in Alberta (e.g., prairie region, forests, rivers, hoodoos, Rocky Mountains, oil sands)?

ICT Outcomes-
C11.1
access and retrieve appropriate information from electronic sources for a specific inquiry

C22.1
seek responses to inquiries from various authorities through electronic media

F11.3
demonstrate an understanding that the user manages and controls the outcomes of technology

Rational For Computer Integration- The reason for using the webpage and the game is so that students can learn at their own pace. The students will also be able to revisit the information so that they can use it during their game. I believe that learning on a computer is a fun an exiting way for students to learn and it gives them an opportunity to learn basic computer skills.

First Post

Hi! My name is Joel. I am a student at the University of Lethbridge. I am a general major and my major streams are Native American Studies, Anthropology and Psychology. I am currently in my first year of Education and hope to be a elementary school teacher when I graduate. I am originally from Martensville Saskatchewan which is 10 minutes North of Saskatoon. I enjoy golf, fishing, hunting, camping, and anything else that is outdoors related. I am also a huge sports fan and I love to watch the NHL, NFL, and CFL. I have already met many great people in in our first few days of PS1 and am looking forward to meeting and working with the rest of you.
